ESIM was founded in 1997 in Alicante, Spain, and
was the brainchild of Professor Jaime Merino, then President of the
European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM). His purpose was
twofold: to provide an exciting scientific programme on advances in
Internal Medicine, and to develop links between young residents in
training from all over Europe.
The School was an immediate success, both scientifically and socially,
and has was held annually in Spain until 2006. For the last three years
it has been in Lisbon, under the successful direction of Antonio Martins
Baptista, who joins Chris Davidson as Co-Director of the School in
London.
Some links to previous Schools are provided below; the programmes show
the varied nature of the topics covered and the increasing use of
workshops in place of lectures to increase student interaction; and the
relaxed atmosphere is clearly evident from the photos.
